About Stony Plain, Alberta

Located a mere 17 kilometres west of Edmonton in Parkland County, the town of Stony Plain has over 17,000 residents, 6,200 homes, and services a wider surrounding community of over 60,000. Accessible from the Parkland Highway and Highway 16, Stony Plain is perfectly situated for commutes to Edmonton's west end.

The heart of the community is its Historic Main Street, featuring a variety of local shops, restaurants and cafes in a tree-lined and atmospheric setting. Known as the "Town with the Painted Past", Stony Plain wears its historic roots proudly: over 30 outdoor murals painted by Canadian artists grace Stony Plain's public spaces, depicting the community's rich heritage. Walking and bus tours of these murals are provided by the Multicultural Heritage Centre, which is also home to the Wild Rose Library and Archives, a collection dedicated to preserving local history and Western Canadian pioneer life.

Outdoor enthusiasts have plenty to keep them busy in Stony Plain. There are three major parks in addition to smaller neighbourhood parks and fields, as well as an interconnected path and trail system perfect for joggers and bikers. Younger family members will appreciate the BMX and skate parks, while golfers can enjoy 18 challenging holes at the Stony Plain Golf Course.

Stony Plain is a full service community, offering city-sized amenities while projecting the charming character of a small town. It has prospered through the decades as an agricultural hub in Central Alberta, and continues to expand steadily. Stony Plain residents have convenient local access to key services, including a newly constructed 68 bed hospital, an RCMP detachment, Provincial court, three school districts, eight churches, and world class recreational facilities.
